Update - Enhancing Public Health and Workplace Safety Measures in the Provincewide Shutdown.
Yesterday, the government of Ontario announced Enhancing Public Health and Workplace Safety Measures in the Provincewide Shutdown.
Following that announcement, Bruce called the Ministry directly to discuss the selling of birds and hunting information. The Ministry confirmed that our “farmgate” sales of live birds are within the guidelines as outlined. (See "Agriculture and Food Production" - Page 23). They also said that they had not received any directive other than those issued in December’s Provincial Restrictions. You will see that hunting is still allowed in the most recent directive.
We will, of course, be following the provincial directive limiting groups to 5 people outdoors – either 5 hunters (non-guided) or 4 hunters and a guide. No additional people will be able to attend until the restrictions are lifted. (See “Events and gatherings” - Page 12)
Because we have a “permit/licence” on the game farm, we also qualify as an permitted outdoor recreational amenity (See “Outdoor recreational amenities” - Page 27). Physical distancing requirements of 2m must be met.
We also received an e-mail this afternoon from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) which states the following:
The OFAH reached out to government officials to seek additional clarity and confirmed that fishing and hunting activities remain permitted, so long as they are consistent with public health guidelines.
You can find out more details at www.ofah.org/covid19.
If there are any further restrictions posted that affect our operation, we will advise.
We can provide you with invoices prior to your trip to our location which will validate your purchase of birds and include our licence number and the Ministry allowance to take home harvested birds.
Should you be queried by an enforcement officer, you will have the proper documentation to support approved activities as per the attachments and our discussions with the Ministry.
